M15 Pune IND – Oliver Crawford triumphs
Oliver Crawford of the United States stopped the winning run of his country mate Zane Khan to win the the title of the $15000 KPIT –MSLTA ITF WTT Cup Men’s tennis championships being organized by MSLTA in association with Deccan Gymkhana.
The No. 4 seed from Spartanburg rallied down Indian No. 6 seed Manish Sureshkumar in the stage of the last four in two sets.
No. 8 seeded Khan, who clinched the trophies of the last two tournaments on Indian soil this month, booked the spot in the all-US-American final by defeating Swedish No. 5 seed Jonathan Mridha in straight sets.
Twenty-one-year-old Crawford fired eight aces and won 79 per cent of his first-service points in a one-sided championship match to secure a 6-3, 6-0 win after 68 minutes. The former juniors World No. 9 lifted his third singles trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
“It’s been a great week and I had tough matches on the way to the final. It feels great to win the event, which was conducted in tough times. I feel for Zane as he looked very tired but he had three good weeks in India. It’s my first time in India and everything about organisation of this event has been perfect. I would like to come back again”, Crawford said.
The singles winner Crawford earned $2,160 in prize money as well as 10 ATP Ranking points while the runner-up received $1,272.
